The British drugmaker plans to launch the Viagra Connect brand after its patent on it expired, although patent expirations are not expected to be affected.

Pfizer has been testing the generic version of Viagra Connect for months to make sure its drug works, and is working on ways to make it more widely available.
Viagra Connect is sold in two forms, a tablet and an oral jelly, and the generic version is sold as a liquid, which Pfizer has said would be more readily available.
The company is also developing a combination of Viagra Connect and an erectile dysfunction treatment called sildenafil.
Sildenafil is sold under the brand name Viagra. It is the same drug as the pill that Pfizer developed to treat erectile dysfunction in 1998.
Pfizer will continue to produce and market its version of Viagra Connect as a generic, as part of a broader strategy to improve safety and efficacy in men.

The generic version of the drug was developed to lower blood pressure, but Pfizer has said it plans to sell the version for as low as $3.95 a pill.
The two companies are working on ways to manufacture and market the drug in the United States, while still working to improve safety and efficacy.
